PURPLE ORGANinterview
October 14th 2003:
The following EXACT same questions appeared in a R.S. issue  and were asked to Rufus Wainwright.   Antifolk Online gave them to Douglas Black (The Purple Organ) with the instructions to answer them however he would choose to.  And to have fun with em.  Here are his responses:
RS:  What is your first musical memory?
The Purple Organ:  My mommy's mammeries, and the songs she sang as I suckled.

RS:  What’s the first song that you wrote?
The Purple Organ:   "This is the very first song of the very beginning of time and all creation".

RS:  How did your fascination with Leonard Cohen begin?
The Purple Organ:  It began as Leonard personally carmelized the snail in the forest arm pitted sports car....and never ended.

RS:  Is there a line by Cohen that jumps out at you?
The Purple Organ:  Nothing, absolutely nothing.

RS:  What was the last song that you wrote before going into rehab?
The Purple Organ:  "I can't wait till rehab is over and I get to do more drugs". and  "Please take me to rehab so I can be exposed the hard, addictive, and deadly drugs that I had avoided prior to going into rehab".

RS:  On the song “Want” you sing “I just want to be my dad/ with a slight sprinkling
of my mother.”  What were your parents’ reactions to that?
The Purple Organ:  They sprinkled me as I had never been sprinkled before.

RS:  If you wanted to turn a kid on to good music, what three albums would you give them?
The Purple Organ:  Jimi Hendrix "Electric Ladyland",  The Boredoms "Super rr", and Willie Nelson "Willie and Family Live".

RS:  Who is your favorite artist to sing along to?
The Purple Organ:  Inglebert Humperdink.

RS:  What musicians are in denial about their homosexuality?
The Purple Organ:  Every stinking one of 'em.

RS:  Really?
The Purple Organ:  You didn't know?

RS:  What musical family has the greatest legacy?
The Purple Organ:  P. Diddy and Family.
