Brad Cool Moe Dee Redjacket How is he? Brad - not sure isn't he in your neck of the woods? Redjacket - Queens yooooo! Redjacket - or one of 5 boroughs Brad - Hey I live in Charlotte- the queen city Brad - How long have you been in NYC? Since 1999?> Brad - I meant 2001? Redjacket - grew up in long island (but you would never know huh?)...packed it to queens in 2000. Brad - I guess I would have never known!! So you are a big city girl! That has to be cool- what do you think are the differences between growing up there against other places? Redjacket - you mean NYC vs. the rest? Brad - sure Redjacket - well there is so much in NYC...differences...culture...vibe...the world is at your fingertips here. I have been to a lot of us cities and it's just not NYC you know...when I travel to other cities Redjacket - sometimes I just want a damn good bagel and coffee...that's tough out of NYC at times. Brad - I guess so- I am not a huge bagel fan it might be just cause there just ain't no damn good ones down south!! Redjacket - you're right. Brad - hhaahahahah- You say that you have been to a lot of US cities- have you toured? Redjacket - no...I have a habit of taking off. I lived in Seattle for 3 months. went cross-country. Brad - Why did you go? did you get what you wanted to out of it? Redjacket - my fav 2 bands are from there...pearl jam and nirvana. it was a rite of passage. a must. saw all the landmarks/clubs. Brad - How was it to be there then- how did it feel? Redjacket - Seattle's awesome...I love the landscape...moggy at times...I love that. the music scene of course was over then but living there made you understand why that "sound" developed...very much related to Redjacket - social status, politics, location etc....it would make a good topic for a thesis. Brad - Did you get inspired? Redjacket - yes. ..I think I wrote a song "lost in ways" and "lyric" there. I don's play those much anymore. Redjacket - I really got into the who and Elliott smith at that time Brad - When did you become redjacket? Redjacket - well I made an attempt to put a band together in 2000...but it panned out. I decided to go solo for a while. I got tired of trying to find cats to play with. Redjacket - but now I'm back at the band thing. Redjacket - we had our first show at the sidewalk on Oct 13th...it rocked Brad - How is that going- Is the band called redjacket Redjacket - yes...that was always the intent...I dug the name so much I wanted to keep it with band or not. Brad - How does the band sound? Redjacket - electric, sonic, chaos Brad - Chaos- how so? Redjacket - humm...with a band there is more opportunity to take the songs elsewhere and anticipate the where the music will go without saying a word. and chaos in terms of MOFO loud (hee hee) Brad - you guys are a jam band? how many pieces is the band? and what kinda guitar are you slinging onstage nowadays? Redjacket - no the days of jamming to oblivion is over...we are a 3 piece. holly rock on drums and jairo ruiz on the bass guitar just like cream. I'm slinging a les paul cherry sunburst. there's no fu*king Redjacket - around when it comes to my gee-tars. Redjacket - it's a love affair Brad - My best pal Mad just got a yellow sunburst Les Paul - he is in love as well! Redjacket - yummy. Brad - I dig Metaphors a lot- are there plans to make a full length? Redjacket - I hope. maybe late next year? things feel fresh and exciting right now. I think we all want to capture that moment. Brad - Sounds cool!! Do you feel like a rock star with a band behind you? Do you wanna be one? Redjacket - you had to ask that question. Brad - Is it a bad one? Redjacket - I'd like to live off music for living...sure. I hate working... I live for retirement. I'd like to make a difference in people's lives thru music...like it did for me. I'd rock star it on my own ter Redjacket - term Redjacket - all though I'm naturally destructive and can run a temper...maybe a natural no? Brad - What would those terms be- I am pulling for you (As artists get bigger they tour -near me!) Redjacket - and don't believe that singing to a label and everything along with that is sellin out. Redjacket - well I don't need the houses in every country and gold doorknobs...I'd love to live in Manhattan at this point. Brad - hey wouldn't we all Redjacket - I think I'm lying. Brad - hey that works- When did you get involved with antifolk? Redjacket - would be nice to have a trainer wake up your ass every morning though because you are lazy. Redjacket - I started going to open mic around the city. I met Fenton lawless at a lame open mic. he introduced himeself to me and told me go to the sidewalk. I knew about that place...into the late hours of Brad - I think a trainer wakin me up would piss me off- make it my accountant Redjacket - the nite ran by some punk named lach. Redjacket - so I took Fenton's word on it and I went the next week. Redjacket - I never went back to the others. no need. Redjacket - although I give props to the raven. Brad - Hey this seems like a good point for shout outs- got any? Redjacket - I'm afraid to miss someone...should I just do a free association and see what I come up with? Brad - yeah- I give some in my newsletters and I know I miss a lot but no one has complained yet Redjacket - Nicole Atkins, Tim dark, last-up Larry , joie, dave of Dave's place, Cody chior, Spencer chakedis, lenny Molotov, Hogan, breadfoot, ish, jenn Lindsay, Casey holford, Danny Kelly, knot pinebox, simple.. And back down safely during "porch" Redjacket - classic show Brad - The drummer from 10 Redjacket - who of technically 5 drummers Redjacket - Dave krusen Redjacket - bad move Brad - Dave abruzii or something like that Brad - and blind melon guys too Redjacket - he is the 3rd in technicalities...matt Chamberlin played on the 92 European tours. Then Dave A stepped in. Brad - ahhh Redjacket - Dave krusen and the blind Mellon guys formed a band called "somethin theory" I forgot. Brad - that is his band Brad - Unified theory Redjacket - yes...and BTW Dave Abruzezz is my favorite of the drummers. Redjacket - ah yes Brad - Chris Shinn- I used to eat lunch with that guy in High School then he went to LA to get into the music biz Redjacket - cool. Brad - he was a comic fan like lach and had a HS band called imaginary heroes (sp) Redjacket - I imagine the band is defunct Brad - I was an acquaintance he was friends with a couple of my good friends at the time Brad - could be Brad - what other kinds of stuff are you into besides music?
